Spearhead

Skilful and organic sounding Spearhead (fronted by Michael Franti) merge hip-hop with socially conscious writings. They have recently released “Rock the Nation”, taken from the “Stay Human” album.

Franti was born in California in 1966 and used to be one half of hip-hop outfit Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy.

His debut as Spearhead, “Home”, was released in 1994 shortly after the break-up of his former band.

Three years later the follow-up album, “Chocolate Supa Highway” was released. After another long break from recording the excellent “Stay Human” was released in 2001.

The album is the story of the imaginary Sister Fatima, a healer and activist put to death for a crime that her community believes she did not commit.

Franti employs a traditional hip-hop style to deliver messages about issues such as as capital punishment, the environment and racial tolerance.
