Morcheeba
Morcheeba are a British-based trip-hop combo and are made up of brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey, and Skye Edwards. The Godfreys began writing songs in their home town of Hythe, Kent in the early 90s influenced by 30s blues and 90s hip-hop.
The brothers moved to Clapham, South London and continued recording, meeting Edwards at a party in Greenwich, London.
Edwards added her own unique vocal expertise to the band and in 1995 their song, “Trigger Hippie” became a huge underground hit.
The follow-up “Who Can You Trust” was selected by DJ magazine as one of the top 100 dub albums.
In 1996, the trio released a remix of the album track “The Music That We Hear”, as well as “Tape Loop”.
The band embarked on a successful tour of America and in 1997, played the Phoenix Festival and A Day At The Races. The track “Shoulder Holster” included a mix by DJ Swamp with additional vocals from Spikey T.
In 1997 Edwards also performed on the cover version of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”, to promote BBC Radio and Television.
In early 1998, the band released “Big Calm.” “Part Of The Process” provided the trio with their biggest UK hit and has since become established as a classic “chill-out” track.
On “Fragments Of Freedom” (2000) Morcheeba managed to merge hip hop and rhythm and blues. Hits included “Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day” and “World Looking In.”
The latest album “Charango” is in a similar style and features the singles “Women Lose Weight” and “Slow Down.”
