David Gray

David Gray was born in Manchester and brought up in Wales. At the start of his career he played his blend of hard edged folk guitar and vocals in pubs and clubs. At twenty three, Gray signed up with Hut Recordings, who produced records for The Verve and Smashing Pumpkins, and later moved to their new owner, EMI America.

The result was three critically acclaimed albums (A Century Ends, Flesh and Sell Sell Sell).

Working outside of a major label was ideal for Gray. He found a new writing partner called Clune and his first independent album, White Ladder, including the hit single “Babylon”, was a massive success.

Gray secured a support slot at Slane Castle with Robbie Williams, in front of 80,000 people and the single “Please Forgive Me” was another huge success. Gray was asked to perform the title track for “This Years Love”, and persuaded to appear in the film as the leader of a band fronted by Kathy Burke.

White Ladder has sold more than 100,000 copies and Gray is now back with a major label.
